PAWFECT DAY FOR A WALK IN THE SUNSHINE

 PAWFECT DAY FOR WALKIES

Dozens of two legged and four pawed friends enjoyed an exhilarating walk around Itchen Abbas, seen off in suitable style by the Mayor and Mayoress of Winchester.
The annual dog walk is a firm fixture in our charity’s fundraising calendar and this year the weather gods were kind.  “The weather was glorious and the walk near the Avington Estate was delightful with blossom everywhere,” said events organiser and Trustee, Chrissie Barlow. “One year we got drenched but this year was perfect, dry and sunny and even warm enough to sit outside for lunch.”

“Special thanks must go to walk sponsors Gay Dog Boarding Kennels for their continued support and to all the volunteers who mapped the walks, made home-made soup and ploughman’s lunches,” said Chrissie. “An added bonus was that we raised £800 for our work with young families in and around the city.”

Walkers had a choice of two walks, one long and one short, and there was even time for some naughty hounds to have a dip in a handy cattle trough to cool off.
“The weather makes a huge difference,” said event sponsor Daniel Bliss.  “It’s such a great happy, healthy way to raise funds and we’re delighted to be able to support Home-Start in this way. Next year will be our tenth year of sponsorship and we will be back, with our family, our friends and lots of dogs.”
