Referrers

Home-Start has an open referral policy, and only limits referrals where there is a lack of resources. Families (living in Post Codes SO21, SO22, SO23, SO24, SO50 and SO53) are welcome to self-refer or may be referred to Home-Start by:
  • their health visitor
  • their social worker
  • the community psychiatric nurse
  • their GP
  • educational settings
  • other agencies.

We build and maintain relationships with potential referrers so that they are clear about what Home-Start can and cannot offer and that the primary purpose of Home-Start is to offer support, friendship and practical help to families in their own homes. The Co-ordinator contacts the family as soon as possible after a referral has been received  to ensure that the family is happy to receive support and to establish their needs.

A  referral form is needed for every family who may require Home-Start support .

If you feel your family may require support from Home-Start or you would like to discuss a possible referral or for further information please contact our Senior Co-ordinator Liz Stannard on 07796 676563 or email info@home-startwinchester.org.uk. Referral forms are available online below.

If the referral does not fall within the remit of the scheme the referrer will be informed that Home-Start is unable to help. For Eastleigh referrals please contact us.

Download Referral Form

Two versions of the Referral Form are available below for you to download. If you have MS Word available download and use the MS Word version. If you are unable to edit an MS Word document, use the PDF version which you can complete and scan. Please return the completed form by email.

Frequently Asked Questions

We do not operate a waiting list. We will keep referrers informed if there is likely to be a delay in starting support for the family.

The Co-ordinator will contact the referrer to inform them if the referral has been taken up and the nature of support to be offered, i.e. linked to a volunteer and/or Family Group support.

Referral Testimonials

Sandra’s volunteer has been one of the main positive things in her life in recent months so many thanks for picking up the referral and for all the help Home-Start has given.

Hilary Sharpe

Home-Start have provided friendly and appropriate support to families that I have referred. The team are communicative right from receiving my referrals, contacting me for additional information and updating me with the timescale before a volunteer is assigned. It has been a pleasure working with the Home-Start team highlighting the benefits of multidisciplinary working.

Natalie Ellison

Worker/EarlyBird Licensed Trainer, Lanterns Nursery School
We are so grateful for the support that Home-Start provides for families of young children with disabilities and special needs. Having a volunteer provides families with practical support to enable them to do everyday things which are more difficult when one of the family have an additional need, such as going to the park or a toddler group. Volunteers also provide a listening ear and help families with practical suggestions on managing everyday situations. It is always lovely to hear from families what a difference Home-Start is making in their lives.

Sue Herdman

Inclusion Manager, Lanterns Nursery School
