Liz Stannard
Senior Co-ordinator

Liz joined Home-Start in 2014 as part time scheme Coordinator. Married with three children, Liz trained as a physiotherapist and has supported children with special needs. Her appointment expanded the number of families that we could mentor each year. Liz was promoted to Senior Co-ordinator in April 2020.

Jane Read
Co-ordinator

Jane joined the Home-Start team in April 2020. She started her career as a live in nanny, then a  teaching assistant in a special school and 30 years ago she came to Winchester to do teacher training.  Jane taught for many years in Primary schools, brought up her two girls and over the last eight years has developed the role of a well-being practitioner in both Primary and  Secondary schools.

Sue Barham
Office Manager

Sue is our part-time Office Manager joining Home-Start in June 2007. Prior to working for Home-Start, Sue worked for Lloyds Bank for over 30 years. She has one daughter and is Chair of Governors at a local primary school.

Liz Brown
Family Group Leader

Liz is our part-time Family Group Leader. She joined Home-Start in 2007. Married with one son, she has been a primary school teacher.

Charlotte Howard
Family Group Co-ordinator

Charlotte joined Home-Start November 2021. She lives with her husband and her four children on the outskirts of Winchester. Charlotte is a trained Montessori teacher and she also recently trained as a Home-Start volunteer.

 
Barry Page
Chair

Barry became our chairman in July 2020. He is the father of five children, ranging from five to 30 years of age. He is an ardent believer in the importance of creating a nurturing environment for children to develop, to allow them to become well-rounded adults. He readily admits that parenting is not easy, and says he is still learning! Each stage of a child’s life brings new challenges but circumstances outside the control of many families can mean that extra support is sometimes necessary. Barry is also involved with supporting a school in India and pursues his passion for wildlife through charities, which support the conservation of tigers in India and African elephants.
Chrissie Barlow

Chrissie began her working life in the Diplomatic Corps before moving into broadcast television with ITV. Her most recent career was as Production Manager on programmes such as Homes Under the Hammer and The Dambusters Great Escape. She retired five years ago and became a Home-Start Trustee shortly afterwards, wanting to be able to give something back to the community especially in the area of child and family welfare. She enjoys exercising her Irish Setter, and gardening. Now lockdowns are over she is thoroughly enjoying spending time again with her family in Switzerland, France and Bristol.
Martin Tomsett

Martin is a notary public, a retired solicitor and an occasional teacher of legal English at Southampton University. He has been a trustee since 2010. As well as being HSW&D’s company secretary, Martin co-ordinates our team bidding for grants which provide essential funding. He is married to Barbara, has two adult children, neither of whom has the slightest interest in the law, and enjoys long country walks, spending time in the garden, singing tenor with the Waynflete Singers and learning other languages.
Mike Davies

Mike served in the Royal Navy for 23 years then spent 15 years with IT giant Fujitsu before entering the charity sector in 2002 to run Age Concern Winchester. He joined Home-Start W&D twelve years ago as Treasurer. As one of our longer serving trustees, Mike retains his enthusiasm for the fabulous work the charity does supporting young families. He is married to Pauline and they have two grown up sons and five grandchildren. In Mike’s spare time he plays golf and organises charity golf days and quizzes to help raise much needed funds.
Jackie Sumner

Jackie spent her working life as a special needs teacher and headteacher in the field of special educational needs and disabilities. She has two grown up children and believes that education and nurturing are core to the development and progress of all children. Jackie is now enjoying retirement with her husband and enjoys walks, being a school governor and a trustee at Home-Start. She is looking forward to new adventures to Europe and Morocco in a Landrover Defender.
Graham Winyard

Graham spent his career in public health and medical management before retiring in 2007. He has lived in Winchester for 30 years and is married with three children and four grandchildren. A volunteer and a trustee, he feels passionately that as a society we have failed to focus on the importance of supporting the early years of childhood. He believes strongly that there should be a return to properly funded Children’s Centres. He is a practising Buddhist and became a much better cook during the covid lockdowns.

Stephanie Durrant

Stephanie is retired after 40 years in education. She taught in a range of settings, including special education, and also managed Hampshire’s Behaviour Support Teams. She believes that the early support of families can make a massive difference to a child’s life chances. She is a keen member of her local amateur dramatic group. During lockdown she took taking part in several Zoom performances including a pantomime which she wrote. Stephanie is married with two daughters and three grandsons.

Gill Longman

Gill started her working life as a journalist before moving into marketing management. She has three grown up daughters and believes passionately that all children have a right to a secure, stable family life. She joined Home-Start as a volunteer twelve years ago and has chaired the fundraising group. Gill enjoys walking her border collie, swimming and theatre trips for relaxation.

Hilary joined Home-Start in March 2021. She went to school & college in Winchester & wanted to work with and support a local charity. Hilary works full time for a professional services firm as well as running her own coaching business supporting woman in business. In her spare time Hilary enjoys baking cupcakes & travelling
Joanna Chapman-Andrews

Joanna spent 20 years living in Brussels and Jeddah. On returning to the UK, she joined the NHS and over the next two decades gained a masters degree in health education and promotion. She established a programme of public health/ health promotion training and development. across Hampshire and the Isle of Wright. Joanna retired 10 years ago and became an active grandmother, commuting to London for two days every week. She trained as a Home-Start volunteer in 2021 and became a trustee in September 2022.
Tina Gericke

Tina was a Home-Start volunteer for more than five years following her retirement from the NHS. She had trained as a paediatric Occupational Therapist, working in child and family psychiatry, and then later in acute and community paediatrics, and as an academic. She found the Home-Start training and method of working immensely powerful. She says the idea of accompanying another parent, practically and emotionally is a subtle approach, It’s not always easy but she considers it a very sound approach. Tina comments that the role and skill of Home-Start staff is key in helping forge successful relationships between families and volunteers.

Jane worked in the charity sector for 25 years for two different charities focussing on supporting families with younger children. The first was The Pre-School Learning Alliance (now the Early Years Alliance) and she was later a Scheme Manager for Home-Start Banbury. She retired in 2021 and moved to Hampshire to be nearer to two of her grandchildren and was pleased to come into contact with Home-Start in Winchester. She says she is delighted to have been invited to become a Trustee and we are thrilled to have her experience.

Bonnie
Family Group Leader

Bonnie started as a family group leader in Sept 2022.  She is a mum to 5 children and when her twins were born a Home-Start volunteer supported her through a very foggy time!  Bonnie has worked previously as a Teaching Assistant and voluntarily run toddler groups.  She is loving her role with Home-Start, especially meeting and getting to know all our wonderful families.
